Sony Head Unit

Featured Replies

I recently bought an Octavia LX which was fitted with a cassette stereo. As I do not own any cassettes I fitted a Sony single CD head unit. This was a great improvement as it is a 4x 60. However it seems to tick out more than the original stereo, and when the heated rear screen switch is in the on position you can see the grey metal of the top of the stereo!

This might be very trivial, but it is ugly! Any suggestions as to how I could fix this. I am almost at the point of painting it black!

I imagine the new HU facia will be a little proud but you shouldn't see any of the HU metal body.

Is the new HU cage, used to secure HU to dash is a little proud then you have to push it in further. Also may be HU is not going in far enough....you'll have to remove glovebox to get to back of HU and move the wires to make more space.....it's a bit tight behind there.

Hope this helps.

William,

Echo the comments there.

It is easier to remove the 6 or Torx screws holding the glovebox in place (Make sure you do not snap the wires on the Glovebox light).

On the back of most Head Units there is a bolt with a rubber cap on it. This sits into a round hole in the Heater Box & helpds to hold the stereo in place & stops it rattling around. If this is not sat in place correctly this can cause the HU to sit proud of the facia.

6 screws?! That would explain the rattle... :p

I'd agree, it's probably something behind the HU that's preventing it from being pushed back further.

Thanks everyone. I will have a go at removing the glove box at the weekend. Other than sticking to far out, I have to say the Sony looks cool. The red illumination fits in well with the gigantic red triangle emergey flasher button above it on the dash.

Probably the wiring loom & ISO connector ;)

Take out the glovebox (watch that light !!!!!) and tidy up the wiring.

Not sure if it's exactly the same but it is easy if you have the right kind of screwdriver (Torx something or other?). See this post for more info.

It does only give you access to the back of the player, which is useful if you need to see where the wiring is going to fit. You will still need the correct tools to remove the original one.
