Starting problem.

As in won't start. Starting has always been easy - let glo plugs go out and turn it over. Week or so ago, with not stone cold engine ,it turned over ,ignited fuel and cut out. Few minutes later it roared into life , after a few coughs as if air in fuel lines. Then last week ,i was a bit zealous coing out orf garden and car bounced a bit. Coughed and spluttered .Switched off and came back to life. Today - it tries to start on turn ,then sounds like it wants to go . Smells like fuel going through, but I haven't checked the fuel return .

Pondering on two points, and looking for pointers.

1) -Tank has been a bit low recently .Could system need bleeding, or is it self bleed.

2) Possiblty Glo plug problem, but I wouldn't imagine all three would go at same time, so that leaves glo plug relay- and fuses. Anyone point me to them , as Haynes is a bit vague on this

Battery is full of life, and I've moved car around on it ,as well as trying a reset by taking the battery off for an hour.

Problem solved . Nothing dramatic, just a build up of muck around the fuel shut-off valve, next to the EGR .Cleaned out and all is now well again.in fact car feels better than before. Mods- close post, please .

i've just noticed a post by Garethw in ask a tech ,that sounds sooo similar to my problem. I can't post on there, and Gareth can't accept any new PM,so perhaps he might look at fuel shutoff valve, crud inside air intake pipe next to EGR making the valve stick shut.Gareth ,if ypu've got a Haynes, look at page 4B3, PHOTO 1.8B

Thanks for that insight, but I think my problem is electrical as when it happens you can;t communicate with the ECU over VCDS.

I had wondered if it was a fueld shutoff problem, but that is part of the injection pump on the non-PD engine.

I have just changed the ECU relay marked 109 on the top with one from ebay lets see how that goes.
