fuse stoping starting

Featured Replies

Hi,

Had a problem with th heater blower not working so went to check fuses. No. 4 (5amp) is blown but while there thought I'd check other fuses.

When pulling one out and putting it back in I  thought it odd that the radiator fan started (car was stone cold) and when I went to start the car, it starts ok but immediately cuts out.

Haven't touched anything but the fuses; wondered if there's any advise on what I need to do to sort this.

First thing I would try would be to disconnect the battery for 30 mins, then reconnect and try again. After the battery reconnects you will get lots of warning lights, but assuming it starts they will all disappear soon after driving for a short way.

Thanks, now sorted.

Still got air-bags warning light on, but at least it starts and runs.

The thing that threw me was when I pulled out and reinserted some of the other fuses, the radiator fan came on. Not sure what that indicated.

The airbag light won't go out on its own. You will need VCDS or similar to clear it.

Got a code reader so will do that.

Have wondered whether the light being on deactivates the airbags; ie if the warning light is on, do the bags not work?

Yes, if the light's on the system is deactivated.

This fan running was a good clue, I think after the fuse pulling one of the modules locked up, which is why I advised disconnecting the battery, to give everything a chance of a clean start.
