Random Questions - Octavia VRS 2015

Featured Replies

Hi people....

Hope you can help me..

Picked up my brand new Octavia VRS 220Bhp 2.0 Ltr and i have a few questions....

Questions :

1 can i open just the Boot from the key fob while leaving all the doors locked ???

2 the boot button isn't currently working full stop, do i need to activate this ??

3 SmartLink on the touch screen, whats all that about ??

4 Vag Com - can i use this on my octavia ?? if so what can i change on the car ?? worth having or not and will it affect the Warranty ??

Thats all for now folks..

As always, your help is much appreciated.

1. Yes....quick press should allow the boot to be opened using the bootlid switch.....long press should actually pop the actuator as if the bootlid switch has been pressed. Shutting the boot leaves the car fully locked.....the doors are not opened.

2. The boot button should just work...there is either something wrong with a hardware component or coding in the car.

3. Smartlink allows you to connect a compatible iOS or Android device to the head unit via USB so it becomes the master.....basically you can fully control the phone and access compatible apps in the headunit....for example Google maps integrates so technically you dont need a sat nav. All mid/high end MIB2 hardware supports it...in the UK at least only the Columbus comes with it activated as standard. Its a cheap factory option on the Bolero/Amundsen but it can be activated by means of a dealer purchased "Activation code" retrospectively. That part as yet doesnt exist but it is comming. Older MIB1 equipped cars do not support Smartlink at all...I dont think the hardware is compatible and VAG wont update the firmware for it.

4. Lots of things can be coded with VCDS but its not something to muck around with unless you are very sure on what you are doing....you can completely break the electronics if you get it v wrong. Lots of people with the know-how who can help for the love of Briskoda/beer tokens. Whether these changes affect warranty is a bit of a grey area...particularly if you are adding functionality the on board electronics support but were not coded with from the factory....normally a case of not affecting the warranty but your dealer and Skoda wouldnt support a warranty fix for something coded/not standard fitment....dealer may support though if its something theyve assisted with/you have paid to do on your behalf.

In answer to question 4 you can find everything that can be changed or modified here .... but as the previous post states, you do not want to be messing around with VCDS unless you are confident and know what you are doing.

There is a list of active VCDS owners here that would be able to assist you.

Apart from number 4.... Did your dealer not cover the basic operation of the car and accessories at handover???
