rear 12v socket - vrs estate

Featured Replies

Hi

thinking about a rear dashcam - is the rear 12v socket in the boot live all the time or only when the ignition is on?

(much shorter distance to cable than running it from the front of the car, but don't want the dashcam on all the time)

All the 12v sockets are permanent live

All the time, linked to the front one as far as I'm aware.

thanks

will look for a switched live instead for the front/rear cameras and buy a longer lead :)

I believe my rear camera is powered via the rear wiper motor (I paid a company to install it, so not sure exactly hope they did it, but I still have access to the power point in the boot) .

There are numerous threads on this, just use the Search facility.

You can make the power sockets Switched with the ignition  - look at the picture in step 2 of this post, the yellow fuse to the right of the fuse 58 is shown in the switched position, yours will be set in the position along side the black/green fuse - it is a 2 way fuse position.  In the upper position the power sockets are permanently live, in the lower position they are are switched with the ignition.  For some reason in Skodas they are set permanent in the factory VWs are set switched - the picture is from my Golf but your fuse box will be the same ,layout.

Afraid, in the 2014 mk3 Vrs estate anyway that Skoda fusebox doesn't have the option to switch to ignition only on.put my front one in on a piggy back fuse that feeds the rear wiper.
