Wanting a new car - Thoughts?

Featured Replies

So I have a Mk1 2007 Fabia VRS SE.

Power is fine, not too sure about the drive, it's alright thought and it looks pretty good, especially with my SE blue paint and full leathers. I have come to despise it over the winter, though. The windows are always misted up and frosted when I go to and finish work (I work nights) without any decent A/C to blast at the windows, or heated window screens I've just lost love for it, because of a few other problems too.

Now, I want to sell the fabia and then I have a couple options.

I've been looking at Fiesta ST, Clio 197 and no I'm not a ****boy, but Corsa VXR.

Fiesta ST - Now the Fiesta would be my first choice, but being fairly new they're expensive.

Seems you can pick up one on finance of like 170 a month for ~ £12,000-13,000 with 10-15k miles.

It has everything I want, some power, looks nice, inside is all modern and comfortable and it has brilliant AC and quick clear screen!

Now, unless I finance a 12k car, I'm looking at a budget of like 5-6k and there COULD be something wrong with it, even if I do get FSH and as low mileage as I can find.

Clio 197 - Seems you can pick them up for about 4-5k with around 55-60k on the clock.

I do like them, in some moods I may thing it looks abit like a bug from the back but most of the time I look, and with the cup spoiler and how it will sound, it will be mean. So looks are there, speed is there, inside is nice, not sure about more recent Clio's but I'm sure the AC is half decent (my mate has a 182 and like my fabia, inside is just lacking), doesn't have heated screens though.

Corsa VXR - Simlar with the Clio, 4-5k with 50-70k miles and FSH.

Yeah I know, it's a corsa but you have to admit they do look nice, I don't care what you say. I've watched a few videos of them being belted round a track and they seem to be decent and the only bad things I've actually heard is they're a 'gay corsa' and the 'ride is hard' but I would imagine most hot hatches like these 3 are simlar and probably not actually that 'hard'. So outside is nice, inside is beautiful, I was looking at SRI which is a less tuned VXR engine but an extra 1-1500 for the seats, VXR kit and center exhaust etc is worth it. I'm sure Vauxhall are all up to date with AC etc and it all looks nice and modern, again, no heated screens.

Now, unless I price cars too high, I feel uneasy about how cheap the VXR and 197 can be, even with FSH and 50-60k miles I've seen as low as 3500. I'm not sure if that's because I've only had diesels and they hold value even past 100k miles, because modern cars aren't THAT much different in fuel costs I wouldn't have thought. Do petrol cars really knacker up that much faster than diesels?

Thoughts, comments, advise below.

Thanks.

Have you changed the pollen filter recently also have you had the doors resealed due to wet carpets, if so the sound proofing can hold water, give your windscreen a wipe over inside and I've just put a moisture absorber under my seat to see if that helps get moisture out of the air. I've driven a corsa vxr and Clio sport 182 different league handling and drive ability.

Do you mean the VXR and 182 is in another league compared to the VRS or eachother?

Saw a track comparison of the VXR and 197 and the 197 is a bit better and 1 second faster, but that doesn't matter in everyday driving (even thought I do drive hard sometimes, it's not TRACK driving, so that doesn't really matter)

Sorry they are in another league to the fabia vrs, should imagine the vxr being cheaper on car tax, 182 my stepson was paying £265 a year, my mrs nephew got the vxr, take it to 4000 rpm turbo kicks in, he's got the artic version so limited edition. Recaro seats. Renault Clio 182 had some go too, 5500 rpm hold on and it just kept on going up. Sure the vxr was 202 bhp.good for a 1.6

Thought so.

I think when the time comes I'll see insurance prices and then look around see which cars are for sale at the time and that will make my mind up.
