MOT Prep / House keeping

Featured Replies

Hi all,

It has been a long time since I have been on here! Wonder if I can ask for some help?

MOT time, stitched up every year thanks to it being in Feb, even more so since this weather doesn't want to seem to play fair. So normally I would just get out and do it and discover as I go, but currently there is no time for that.

1. Rear Caliper

Apparently one of them is ceased. On the last MOT they said the Right side was sticking, then managed to loosen it, 4 days after it came back to handle, hand brake. Because of the nature of the vRS brakes, are they easy to un-cease, if so, how do?

2. Door locks

If I bip the car, it will open the drivers side and the nearside passengers door, but if I go in the car, I can manually open the other two. Does that sound like the door jam cable or micro switch issue?

3. Air-con

How easy is it to swap out the rad? Mine has a leak and have been its more than likely the rad.

4. Y shaped breather pipe.

Going to switch back to this and pop off the catch can. What is the best pipe to use and is it 19mm?

5. Other Vac line pipes.

What is the internal diameter of the vac lines? Ideally the ones that come off of the inlet manifold? Believe they're all the same size, but can't find a diameter.

6. Raising the car

If I raise the car and the coils are ceased, is it possible to uncease them? Pro-sports.

You mean seized right mate, when I first read the bit about the caliper I was wondering if it has ceased to exist or something and then how would you not have noticed that

1. Rear calipers are quite straight forward depending on what has seized up; the slider bolts can dry out and need re-greasing (easy), winding the piston back in and then using the handbrake lever to wind it back out a few times normally gets a bit more life into them. However, if it's the same caliper as last year then it might be worth getting it replaced, you can get new ones in the correct green for about 45 quid on ebay

6. Depends how bad they are, but usually a bit of penetrating fluid and some gentle heat frees them up ok.

2) If all 4 doors can be locked/unlocked, then that should meet the  MoT requirement.

3) Air con isn't part of the MoT.

Are we talking vrs here? Got myself a pair of remanufactured rear cailpers painted green off eBay for £95 posted. Then had a trusty Briskoda mechanic fit them.

I did think I had spelt that wrong, but I thought just go with it ha.

On my last MOT, pretty sure they had to lube the arm up that you use to contract the caliper and that sorted it out. Soon as the weather is dry, il try and give it ago.

2. They can all be opened. they don't dead lock, just don't open in sequence, well at least not all of the time.

3. More of a house keeping issue than MOT. (for sale purposes)
