Aux Port Not working....any ideas?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I've had my VRS for just under 18 months now and it's been great.

My first main niggle to report is that my AUX in port seems to have stopped working. I've tried several cables (all tested on other kit) and and several devices from a my phone to an iPod and even a portable digital radio...none work!

As the port is in the jumbo box and the lead I was using had quite a substantial jack plug I can only think that leaning on the armrest whilst the cable has been in place I must have dislodged something, although I would have thought that unlikely as the port seems pretty robust and it's recessed.

My stereo is the MFD2 navigation unit (not the greatest headunit I've ever owned and the navigation is dreadful). I can still select the AUX audio input but when I do I can only hear a slight line noise when the volume on both the head unit and the AUX attached device are turned right up.

I'd not had AUX in on any of my previous cars and now I'm without it I'm missing being able to plug in my phone to listen to digital radio or Spotify etc.!

Has anyone else had this issue? Any suggestions?

You can get to the plug on the back of the aux hole by removing the rear passengers cup holder/ ash tray I believe. make sure it hasn't come undone and just hanging about

Spot on, Cheers Andy, was hoping that I could get access without having to take the whole lot out :)

No worries, when I got my mk2 vrs the aux port hadn't been coded into the radio but I did a bit of "exploring" before coming to that conclusion haha

Yeah, mine was working so hopefully it's not anything like that....used to do a lot of car audio stuff but "exploring" is not something I have the time for these days :)

If you have mdi port with a device pluged in the aux port wont work until you unplug the mdi device.

I had this problem and once I removed my data stick from the mdi cable my aux port worked again.

I don't think I have an MDI port (certainly haven't plugged anything in to any port other than the AUX port), only AUX in the Jumbo box....where would the MDI port be located ?

Yeah I had issues with this too. Got underneath the jumbo box and found it disconnected. Took Me ages to work it out because I could hear a static noise through the speakers

When I got my Octavia 2nd-hand one of the many issues (long story :dull: ) was the non-functioning aux in.

It was easily fixed by my friendly VW specialist though as the connector had dropped off the back of the socket underneath the jumbo box. It's a common problem I was told so probably worth going down that route first..

Good luck.

Thanks both, I'm aiming to have some time on Sunday to try and get to the underside of the socket. I don't have rear cup holders as mentioned by one of the posters above so I cant see that I can get to it any way other than taking out the Jumbo box. Is this the case, or can it be accessed more easily. If not I'll look for a guide on the forum.
