Quad lock Grey and white wires

Featured Replies

I have a kufatec reversing camera interface that I want to use on my Columbus but it has an aftermarket dab interface connected to it. The Grey and white wires come out of the male quad lock into the dab box then back out to the female quad lock. Is it OK to just cut them and resplice or are they even needed on the female side. The kufatec us also spliced into them so can't get rid all together . I have no use for the dab box, I never use the radio

Might be more relevant to say what pins they go on to in the head unit rather than the colour of the wires. If Kufatec (or anyone) has used different colour wires for their loom then it's not an easy question to answer.

Sorry was just adding a photo, I think 9 and 10?

Again, check the wiring diagram on top of the Columbus and note which pins these wires are connected to.

I think can + and - looking at the rns 315 it came off but no idea what they do.

If those are the CAN wires then the whole loom / Quadlock must be part of the DAB interface, correct?

In any event, you'll need those two wires (twisted pair, not straight wires if you replace or modify them) for the head unit and car to speak to each other.

Ah right I guess that makes sense. In that case it looks like I may have to splice the kufatec into my existing loom instead? Cheers @rustynuts it looks like it was an attempt to remove one more quad lock which as the kufatec only has 4 wires I suppose makes sense. It was being used with an mdi, camera interface and the dab unit so I imagine space was a little cramped for another quad lock. I'm guessing the can wires tell the box reverse was engaged?

The can wires do all sorts of stuff, like telling the unit when the ignition is switched on (what used to be ignition switched live before CAN days), carrying data from reverse sensors on Optical Parking System, lighting data so that the unit will turn the illumination on when you put the lights on, and all sorts of other stuff. It's rather important to keep those wires.

This is the unit, no use to me as my steering wheel doesn't have a source button. Shame, it looks pretty cool!

Pretty poor looking unit I think, personally. £150 for a bodge fix to give DAB radio. You'd be better off selling the head unit and buying one with DAB instead.

I don't need dab anyway so like i said no use to me
