Vrs engine bay help

Featured Replies

Hi..i have a mk1 vrs..can anyone help with the name of the black box infront of water bottle that makes a ticking sound and when should it make ticking noise....thanks I'm new to these cars....

Erm it's something like carbon air filter (or secondary carbon filter) and yes they all seem to tick.

Some louder than others.

You will probably find it louder on cold mornings/evenings.

Evap cannister - and yes it is supposed to click.

What Rob said, mine used to tick notably, on an old Seat the ticking would interfere with the radio, that was annoying. Either delete it or get used to it. They're there to help control emissions and recycle fuel vapour so they are useful. Ticking is normal though.

Cheers guys..when should it make the noise.mine has stop making any noise.or does it only work when below a certain temp outside....

Just whenever there's fuel vapour to recycle, it just comes and goes I think. I suppose there's times when it will be worse, cold start, stood still on idle etc. But if it's ticking it's working
