adding dab to android unit

morning,

i was hoping someone would be able to help! looking at buying an android or wince headunit and a dab addon box - some of these addon boxes vary massively in price from 50-150 quid. do they all work the same? could you essentially use one brand of dab box and connect it with another brand headunit? i appreciate youd probably have to cut and solder the connectors?
