Rough road package / raised suspension

Featured Replies

I ordered my superb with the rough road package, which includes a 15mm higher suspension than normal (149mm -> 164mm).

Since my order is still a ways off, i thought i could ask people what they think about the addon and maybe change it.

I don't have personal experience with higher clearance cars, just that it was recommended by a friend (got some ****ty ass roads here).

Does the raised suspension affect ride comfort a lot?

Would you get it or not?

Do you have a car with raised suspension and can comment on it?

I would not bother with the 15mm increase because the S3 sits high anyway, plus if you "need" the extra 15mm the S3 is probably not the right car for the job as 15mm is bugger all really if you are talking about off round clearance

Is it not possible to get the off road package but leave the suspension alone ?  Shame the adaptive suspension cant lift the car right height up like on some cars so useful when required. (ie Airmatic etc)

The "Rough road package" is 170€ and and "Engine and gearbox protection" as they name it, is 90€.

I don't mind paying the extra if it's any good but if it makes the ride less comfortable i'd think about it more.

Kind of strange actually - the "package" is 170€ but it looks like the two things separately are 90€ + 40€ (supposedly just 15mm higher clearance).

If the roads are that bad would an Octavia Scout be better?

Well, the roads aren't bad enough to warrant a legit offroad focused machine, i'd just like some feedback if anyone has it on their new superb or maybe superb II or any other skoda really. Basically if it's noticeably less comfortable or too stiff.

The function would be to just protect from regular crap from the road, hard snow that scrapes the bottom and the occasional drive away from main roads.

It shouldn't be less comfortable, but don't expect it to be more comfortable either. Also the 15mm extra clearance won't solve any off-road problems. On bad roads, the extra protection might be a good idea though, when small rocks keep hammering your "carter" (according to google it's called sump in English) you might get problems there.

I have a MkII Octy Scout which has a ride height of approximately 180mm. The car park I use on an almost daily basis when taking my dog for a walk, only the top section is asphalt, the remainder of it (approximately 150 metres) is dirt rubble with huge potholes. The car park is supposed to be One Way; entry via the top and exit at the bottom. Due to the potholes, very few people obey the One Way system and exit via the entrance. I on the other hand can drive down either one of the potholed dirt tracks with ease.

I would not use that particular car park if I had to use either of my previous cars ; 1998 Nissan Primers 1.6 GX or a 2003 Honda Civic as it would have been very uncomfortable for my dog.

The raised height also comes in handy when I have to 'bump' over the kerb to get to my drive.

My commute to work is 40 miles each way via motorway, and I have no complaints about how the car rides or handles. The ride on my Honda Civic, was teeth rattlingly shocking!
