Killed 2 of my wheels last nite......

Featured Replies

sorry goes on a bit:-

Last nite (22:30) on the M60 on the way home was feeling a bit tired so was pootling along at 70mph when i came upon a HUGE peice of wood 6"X4" 20foot long blocking lane 2 and half of lane 3, i was in lane 3 after just passing an artic when:eek: i saw the offending item no time 2 aviod so took my thumbs from inside of steering wheel & lifted my feet off pedals for the impact, it was like hitting a curb face on at 70mph, the front tyre went down in seconds i steered to the shoulder foned the police to remove the wood and cover me while i changed my wheel. massive dent in the inside of the rim. the cop told me it took his partner all his srength to drag the wood of the carriageway. Anyway to cut a long story short went to wheelbase in chadderton to replace my (after market) wheel and tyre, bad news MR 5 ur rear wheel is ****ed too, so 2 new wheels and tyres and a bit of tracking later perfect again minus

Ouch - scary stuff. Glad you're okay.

That sounds horrendous! Glad your OK. I'll PM you my mob no and I'll then put them up here when they arrive.

Ouch. Glad you and the missus are ok though. Hopefully the police will be able to trace the offending wood dropper from the motorway's CCTV system.

thanxs we are ok could have been much worse, no crimbo prezy for swmbo as they are now on the front of the car ;)

just to add ive had punctures at speed before in trucks, cars and vans and the fabia was the easiest to control im just amazed how well put together furbys are i knew they were good

You had a VERY lucky escape. Glad you are safe. In the 1990s years ago a lorry dropped a concrete kerbstone on the A1 near St Neots. I think 3 people - 2 of whom were American visitors - died when a car hit that kerbstone, crossed into the other carriageway, and collided head on with traffic coming the other way. There were no central barriers in those days.

:) Just about to transfer them across from my phone, will have them online in a minute.

Wheels did a decent job I think, judging by these images, and the fact you're still here to tell the tale....

They do look nice mate, good choice, especially as you've now got four round ones back on the car :P

Steve

Ouch!

Rob.

I like those wheels! Glad you are OK, could have been alot worse.

A few years ago my mate was driving his XR3i :o along the M6 when the rear mudflap became detached from the truck in front of him. It hit the windscreen pillar and buckled the roof  . Luckily he didn't crash, but the damage was so severe that the insurance company wrote the car off, and it was just 3 years old at that time! The truck driver never even noticed and just carried on along the motorway. It's amazing that a rubber mudflap can do so much damage.

The truck driver never even noticed and just carried on along the motorway.

Would you notice if something came off a car that was 2 cars behind you?

A trailer tyre blowout isnt as obvious to the driver as you may think (as there would be another good 5 or 11 tyres left), let alone a piece of plastic falling off that is upto 55' away from the driver!

Blimey! Glad everyone was OK. The Police are usually pretty hot on this sort of thing because it is so dangerous. My Dad came up on some metal tree protectors on a back road that meant he had to brake and cause an accident rather than run into them. The copper took a while to trace the driver but he did and the guy was done for unsafe load as well as the insurance claim. If you don't hear anything give them a call back and check.

Safe trips everyone

Had a wheel trim come off an Audi 80 in front of me - straight through the windscreen and embedded in the passenger headrest! Just as well I didn't have a passenger at the time

From my days in a motorway control room I can confirm that debris takes the highest priority ... and the cctv cameras are so badly maintained that you would be very hard pressed to spot the offending vehicle that dropped the wood.

thanx for all your concern you nice people, just to add when i was on the fone to the police a truck ran over the peice of wood and im not kidding the trailer bounced about 2 foot in the air. car seems as good as new just have to clean it now as the new wheels are showing it up a bit.....well a lot

where you not able to do any rallying down the Central Reservation

which is what i had to do once when a Lorry pulled out on me, when I was driving my old Sierra

glad you are all ok. still not a nice experience to have at all.
