Machine polish over a sealant

Featured Replies

Would like views for or against, coated my car last year with Gtechniq C1 . I have light scratches from the feline variety, have tried by hand with a light compound.

But its not what i was hoping for.

Hi Kidology

C1 is quite a strong coating & has to be machine polished to remove. Using a light polish may not remove all the coating but will certainly affect the performance.

If In doubt I'd advise speaking to Gtechniq directly for a more in depth advice.

Karl.

Yes its a tough coating for sure. Its mainly the bonnet and is noticible in certain light. I could fill it but as the weathers changing and a bit of time off work, thought i would machine it out.

As you say may be best to ask at the source.

If you Polish it then it will need re applying in my opinion.

Have you got any left?

I'm not really up on ceramic coatings, although I'm doing a lot of research into them now.

I would ask at source for sure. It does need machining to remove the coating though as all of them do.

Be interested to see what Gtechniq have to say about your question though. :)

Yes i have enough to redo the bonnet. I am trying to ask the question on detail world. Having joined and never posted i am struggling a bit.

As Karl has said i have been on the Gtechniq forum, and seems like it will have to all come off. I would have thought it would have to a coarse compound to remove it?

Two choices.

Leave the scratches and wait for more then do it all in one go.

Machine polish the scratches out and re do the sealant.

Think i will have a go at getting them out. Off work next week so will have a go, worst case take all off and redo the bonnet as you say.
