Fitting Sat Nav

Featured Replies

HI Guys,

I have a Sony in-dash sat nav head unit which I hope to swap into my new Octy VRS (when I get it). Does the standard ISO plug on an Octavia have a feed for the speed sensor on a sat nav system (I think it's called the GAL wire???)

quinten posted a thread about this i think try doing a search and hopefully you will find what you want to know

Yes, there is a speed pulse generator linked to the standard head unit, as this is how the GALA system works - if you search through the "Links" section there's a nice diagram of the pin outs on one of the DIY radio fitting sections.

Whether the aftermarket wiring adapter keeps this wire I don't know, it would depend on which adapter you bought...

If you buy the VW wiring adapter (which you'll need for the active antenna), then the GALA wire (which provides the speed pulse) is NOT present. You'll need to add a wire yourself (which can be rather tricky if you don't have the right metal pins to push down into the connectors). I ended up removing one complete wire from the speaker connector (as thats the same on the normal wiring loom), and putting that into the adapter. Or, if you are buying it from Blue Spot, call them and explain that you'll need the wire on the GALA pins and they might add it for you. Their service is quite good.
