Automatic selector not moving

Featured Replies

Hi just wondering if anyone is having the same problem, the car was left in park, when next tried to use it, it started but would not release from park, i contacted Monaghans Galway they told me where there was a release button for emergency use it worked and for a week the car was fine then it happened again and then again, the dealer wants nearly one thousand to repair it, i called Skoda Ireland and spoke to a guy called Gordon who was of no use and kept talking over me repeating some mantra that was obviously written down in front of him washing his hands off my problem, the car is out of warranty but only has 34,000km on it... can anyone advise... thanks

Are you parking on a hill of any sort?

Is the handbrake fully supporting the car?

Softscoop has some sensible thoughts. If the car's rolling against the park pawl, then it will become stiff to impossible to release the button.

My other thought would be that the cable that the button operates could have stretched or broken.

So next question - Is the button on the lever very easy or pretty much impossible to move?

The car is parked on the flat, i have the hand brake on but i'm not one of those people that believe your face has to turn red pulling the brake on its pulled up until i feel resistance then maybe one more notch

Something else to check is to turn the ignition on but not start the engine (so you can hear better). When you press the brake pedal you should hear/feel a light clunk on the selector which is the lever lock releasing.

If it's not doing that then that's at fault.

Phil

Also check on the dash board that the light goes off when you press the pedal.
