i have a fabia 1.2 htp which has started running roughly and using oil, the garage checked it out, and said i have no compression on No 3 cylinder, is this a common problem, and is it likely to be expensive? thanks.

Not really in the right section but yes on the 1.2 fairly common. A leak down test will confirm but it's more than likely a valve gone due to valve guides.
