Memory mirrors not restored

Am I correct that memory mirrors should restore their last position automatically when opening the car and the driver's seat (also with memory, of course) starts moving? My mirrors are left to their previous position and I need to press and hold the memory button to restore them. I took a glance at the owner's manual and it seems that the mirrors should auto-adjust, but I'd like to get someone else's comments too.

Me and my girlfriend have different seat and mirror positions that should both be associated to our keys. When I open the door, the seat moves to its last position but the mirrors don't. The same happens when she uses her own key - mirrors need restoring with a button press.
