info/advice re unlocking passenger doors

Featured Replies

Hi there everyone, i'm a new owner of 2 days & theres something really bugging me about the central locking. Is it normal to only be able to open the passenger & rear doors by pressing the unlock button on the console? As in when i press the unlock button on key fob or manually open the door with the key only the drivers door can be opened from the outside you have to get in press the button & then all the other doors can be opened. With being heavily pregnant & with a toddler to get into the rear seats this is bloody awkward & unsafe. Am i doing something wrong with the key fob? The used car dealer didn't have a clue about the locking system he couldn't even get the fob to work!!!

Usually it's 1 push on the remote to unlock the drivers door and 2 to unlock all the doors.

^ ^ As above, one press will only unlock the drivers door, press the button twice in succession and all the doors will open. If you have the three button key fob with the centre button releasing the boot make sure you don't put the keys in the boot and close the boot because it will lock the keys inside.

By default on my Fabia only the drivers door would be unlocked with a single button press on the remote.

This can be changed by either someone with VagCom or Carista (which is an app for iOS or Android, but it requires a dongle for the OBDII port, and the full license for the app - approx £20 all in).

I have my Octavia set up so that a single button press on the remote unlocks all 4 doors, and that when driving, and reaching 10mph all doors lock automatically. Also, when stopped, parked up, and the key is removed from the ignition, the central locking unlocks all 4 doors automatically - all done via Carista..

thank you all i guessed it would be something as simple as this but the manual isn't exactly clear

If by some remote chance you are in Cornwall then I'm more than happy to put Carista to the test, and configure the central locking the way you want it jenfunfur ...

Doesn't take long, less than 5 minutes. Alternatively if you post your location I'm sure someone online here will offer to assist you ?

If you have a Maxidot display you can change the setting from unlocking only a single door to unlocking all the doors on it ... there's no need for computer or anything fancy

as per labman's comment above - u can change the settings using maxidot.

settings -> convenience -> door open -> manual

Just one thing worth knowing. If you have the doors set to lock automatically once you start moving (as post #6) and you just pull-up to the kerb to drop off a passenger without removing the key, they will say their door won't open. Just tell them to pull the handle twice and the door will then open. Alternatively you could use the central switch but I always forget as I normally drive alone.
