Polishing pads advice

Featured Replies

going to treat my self to a DAS6 pro from CYC and wondered which pads to get

i am a complete novice when it comes to Da machines borrowed my friends with some cheapo foam pads and got bitten by the bug of machine polishing

should i go for waffle pads

both my cars are fairly new as yet dont need any correction on the finishes

although i may do the friends car that may need some more corrective action

if any one can shed some light on CYC range of pads as i am a bit bemused

i use megs consumer range of products as i used to apply by by hand but as i am buying a das 6 should i really start looking at the detailing range if so what should i be starting with

currently using

gold class wax

ultimate compound

ultimate polish

ultimate wax

thanks in advance

I have a DAS6 pro, and I am using Hexlogic pads, and find them very good. I also have some Lake Country pads, but I don't seem to get the same results as easy with them, but it may just be my technique.

I also picked up some Meguiars microfibre pads at a car show last year, which do a good job but seem to be much more aggressive so you need to take more care as such.

When I was learning at a training course last year the chap said to me that it was more important to develop a good technique rather than own every type of pad. as that is what generates the finish - and this is what I have tried to do, but I'm sure more knowledgeable people will offer better advice soon.

Not got a problem with the technique i dont think

it's the daunting choice of pads where I trip up

Not sure if I need waffle pads or normal

Hexlogic pads are a popular choice for most - either Chemical Guys or Flexipads.

Good performance, quality and well priced.

Waffle pads seem to becoming a bit old school perhaps and falling out of favour.

I still use waffle pads, as they seem a little bit cheaper.

Microfibre are popular - especially effective on harder paint types i have found.

My suggestion on your first purchase is to get a kit of pads - hard, medium and soft;

then play with the pad and compound that gives best results on your paint type.
