Alpine Head Unit - Fitting advice

Featured Replies

I'm sure that this has been covered before, but I can't find it, so please excuse me asking again! I have just fitted an Alpine 9845 head unit in my Octavia and it works fine, but only when the key is in the ignition. Also, it seems to forget its settings once the car ignition is turned off. I seem to recall that this is something to do with how the ignition (red) and battery (yellow) leads are connected. Do I need to to reverse the connections to sort this out? Any advice welcomed!

Yes, it's quite straight forward, you just need to swap the red and yellow wires around.

Not sure if it's the same on Alpines, but with Pioneers the connections have bullet clips so it's quick to swap them around.

if there are no bullet connectors you can usually switch over the the supply side of the in-line fuse holders if it has those. Otherwise you need to cut the cables, swap them over and securely crimp and insulate them. personally i'd get an ISO lead from Halfords and butcher that to swap the wires, then insert it between the head unit loom and the car loom. It saves you from having to cut the head unit or car looms.

Thanks for the replies. The unit has bulllet connectors for these leads, so it's a simple swap job- no wires to be hacked!

Just make sure the remote / elec antenna cable does not go in to the car loom.
