Quick bulb question VRS sidelight bulbs

Featured Replies

What side bulbs are used in the headlights ? And is it possible to change to led ? Also will they need VCDS coding ?

Thanks Andy.

501, blue colour bulb. Had one blow on mine, and the dealer queried if I had changed them because they hadn't seen the blue bulb before ! I'm guessing it would need to be coded as I had a message telling me it had blown.

They are as mentioned a blue 501 bulb. Problem is they are just an addition to the LED strip in the headlight and are barely even visible.

Just turn them off all together with VCDS, gives the headlight a more streamed look

Okies thanks lads I'll turn them off.

Next question is how lol

It's in the VCDS tweaks thread which is pinned at the top of the list.

Just find the 2 channels and set them to not active

If you want to upgrade, buy these.

They are ultra bright and don't trigger bulb out warning.

Yip expect I'll do this thanks dude.

You shouldn't de-activate the sidelight bulbs because by law/MOT standards the car has to have them.

However I (as many other VRS owners) did the same as aki78 and changed the bulbs for quality LED ones, sharpens up the front end in my mind.

Why Skoda fitted LED DRL's and xenon beams but left the sidelights a standard bulb I don't understand, the same as the rear, LED tail lights and standard No plate and reversing light bulbs, which again many owners have changed to LED.

The MoT requires the vehicle to have side lights, the vRS MK3 has 2 per side.

The 501 bulb (barely visible)

The LED light bar at 30% brightness (most visible)

This is duplicated for the parking lights also
