noticed on my phone earlier it had settings for "apple carplay" so did a quick search on google and seemingly its apples version of mirror link by the looks of things and looks pretty good.

 

the apple site has the octavia 2016 model as supporting carplay has anyone used it? or know if this is coming to earlier models as part of a firmware update or is this an optional extra on the 16 model?

Works on mine. Look for YouTube videos doesn't matter what car they all work the same. I opted for smart link as a method of future proofing my car.

so you need smart link for it to work then? thats a shame - i wish i knew what smart link was when i ordered the car...

If your Octavia was built since June 2015 it will have the MIB2 infotainment system and your dealer can add SmartLink for you for about £150. There are a couple of long running threads about it here in the Octy III section.

cheers mate, yes just been reading up on the other threads - i will give the dealers a call on monday and see if i can get them to add it to mine. i have MIB2 system so should be ok.

Well worth having IMHO. It came as standard on my MY16 ex-demo VRS with Colombus. As I have all my music on my iPhone, it works much better for media than the Bluetooth folder-based method.
