Fabia to Rapid

Featured Replies

Well I "upgraded" the Fabia yesteday.

It was a 2004 1.4TDi PD (bought it new) and I part exed it for a 2014 Rapid 1.6 TDi.

We kept the Fabia for so long because, a few niggles aside, it was a great little car and always gave good mpg and a nice torquey motor too.

Only problem was the road tax costs - here in Ireland it was costing €413 per year to tax it, so reluctantly we decided to let it go and get the Rapid - which itself costs €200 per year in road tax.

The Rapid is the basic 90bhp model and a nice car it is too, but he power delivery is very different to the old Fabia 3 cylinder, it needs a bit more revs to get it pulling hard.

Anyway, I hope we can get this car up to it's twelfth birthday with as little trouble as the Fabia.

Are there any common niggles or problems to look out for?

An amusing aside - the dog barks at it as she was only used to the sound of the throaty 3 cylinder engine!! She'll adjust, just as we have to.

Apart from the general car issues that are documented in this forum (e.g. Rear doors retaining water, cabin trim rattles, booming noise from the boot, recall for the sticky throttle peddle etc) there are no major issues that seem to be endemic across the range.

Do keep in mind that the 1.6TDi is one of the engines implicated in the wider VW emissions/mot test scandal, so you might be in line for a payout/recall/increase in road tax (delete as appropriate) in the not too distant future.

Thanks for the tip, I was a ware of the VW emissions thing - no doubt our wonderful government will increase the road tax.

I must ask the dealer I bought it from about that, see if they have any updates.

isn't there a link where you can put the VIN no. in and find out if the car is affected by the emissions scandel

You can put into search box: vw scandal...
