Poor radio reception - dead aerial base?

Featured Replies

So I've just upgraded the HU to a columus (Thanks Rustynuts!) and noticed that I don't get many stations in the radio station list (as gte around 12 in my Superb).

Before I swapped the unit we were getting some poor radio reception in places but the Swing seemed to cope a little better.

Hows best to check for a poorly radio base? Anything i can check in VCDS? I am wondering if I should get one with a built in GPS receiver?

Sorry not sure why double posted?

Do you have one or two aerials?

So this is what I'm seeing when I go into the Station List button on the radio:

If I do the radio setup I can see both antennas are on. However, this wouldn't preclude a bad aerial base?

On my Superb I have 12 radio stations in this list. I can manually tune to other stations and they are ok reception but not as good as my Superb

Have you tried swapping the head units between the two cars, see if it's an issue with the head unit or the car?

It was going pretty crackly in places Andy with the swing before hand. Makes me think it's most likely an aerial tbh. 6yo fabia with a known weakspot at the aerial base - I think i'd hedge my bets there.

It's weird as I said, I can tune manually to other stations. Just doesn't appear to show them on that list. Don't suppose there's something missing in the coding?

Nope, coding wouldn't make any difference to the tuning of the radio mate, I don't think. I have 'em sat on the bench with a temporary aerial and gps stuck outside the workshop, and they tune fine.

I definitely thought it was more likely to be the car than the unit :)

Ordered a new aerial base from the local dealer. Should be here Friday. Something for me to do on father's day :D

Swapped out the aerial base and reception has improved but still not populating the list. More investigation required
