Newbie with a octavia 1.9tdi problem

Featured Replies

Hi all.. I'm after some advise, I have just brought a octavia estate 1.9tdi with 320000 miles on the clock.

I would like to keep it going but it's having problems.

It fires up when cold straight away and runs smooth, take it for a drive and it's fine until the temp gets warm and then it runs lumpy engine shakes and every time the revs die ie dipping the clutch it stalls and then takes a while to start again.the idle when warm is very lumpy

I replaced the maf but don't really know where else to go with it.

Fuel line has no air bubbles when cold but when it's warm and you rev the engine there is a streat of air bubbles entering the fuel pump?

Any advise would be great

Thank you

Could be coolant temp sender, pump timing or fuel filter issue. I would find someone with vcds and get it read for any codes and get timing checked.

Thanks think I will take it to my local specialists to get the timing checked just found it weird it only goes funny when hot

Cooant temp sensor or cam position sensor.

I had the same problem with my 1.9 tdi alh and was coolant temp sensor the one just under the vacuum pump at the gearbox side of the engine hope that helps

IIRC unplugging it will cause the ECU to revert to a default state, so you may see a difference.

If your CTS is the black type, just change it for a genuine revised green version regardless as the Black one's are notorious for failing.

I tryed unplugging it but made no diffrence guess it's still worth changing and yes it's a green one

Thanks

Well that issue is resolved I will get a new sensor as unplugged filled with fuel and the issue is no more.

Thank you all

Another issue is there is lots of blue smoke on start up when cold but not much if atall when full throttle ?

Blue smoke is burnt oil and can be many things from valve stem oil seals, piston rings to turbo seals. Are you sure it's blue and not greyish as that unburnt fuel, and could be glow plugs, leaking injector or pump timing.

Blue smoke on start up is one of the tell tale signs of a duff CTS. That's what it said in my skoda manual when I had it installed on my pc!!
