Rear spring

Featured Replies

Good afternoon

I've just had it up in the air to swap the wheels front/rear and give it a coat of gaze and underbody wax and found a broken rear spring.

What is the easiest way (regarding pulling the suspension to bits) to slip in a new one ta?

PS, where should I get a new spring from? - not main stealers

I'm sure when I fitted my H&R springs I just took out the 16mm? bolt that goes through the spring cup at the hub side and pulled it down to get the spring in and out.

Rear spring? Spring seems to sit inside the lower suspension link.

Thanks wiilydog. That's looks like a 20 minute job at most :-)

You can just undo the two top mount bolts and let everything drop down and take the spring out. You don't even need to remove the arch liners. But you are supposed to replace the top mount bolts.

Job done, it was easy, both springs done for good measure. The only thing I didn't have was an 18mm ring spanner for the bolt on te lower link and there was not room for a socket. Luckily I had a Whitworth spanner that was almost perfect.

It sits higher at the back now, a combination of new springs and the removal of a semi-collapsed broken one I suspect. It will settle down a bit at the rear during the course of the next few weeks.
