Fabia 1 TDi with warning lights removed: help please?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've just picked up an early 2003 (52) Fabia 1.9 TDi Elegance cheap off eBay.  In fact, it was very cheap and I bought it blind as a bit of a gamble so wasn't expecting much.

I drove it around 150 miles home and it didn't miss a beat, mechanically it all seems good.  I did however notice that the ASR/ABS/Airbag warning lights didn't illuminate .  Got it home and plugged it into VCDS to find a couple of small faults with the ABS and airbag system.  Sorted those and the lights still didn't illuminate so I took the cluster out and found that someone has actually removed the ABS warning light, ASR warning light, Airbag warning light and power steering warning light.  Bodgey buggers...why not just repair the faults instead of hiding them?!

Anyway, can anyone advise of a company that might be able to help me?  The warning lights are very small LED's, soldered into the PCB and aren't something I'd be willing to change myself.

I don't want to go down the route of changing the cluster if I can help it because I'd like to keep the mileage as original and also because other than the missing LED's there's nothing wrong with it!

Thanks in advance for any help

Tom

I could do that for you if you can send me the PCB? Got a spare here I could harvest LEDs off.  PM me if you like.

That's really helpful of 'Wino' member with his offer.

The ABS light must illuminate then go out in an MOT test..

I'm changing my needle illumination LEDs to red because I'm changing my white needles to red ones. The LEDs are tiny things but readily available and cheap.

Have just tested my new ones to make sure they are the right colour and that they work before I fit them.

Yes there is a resistor of the correct value under the white tape.

Where'd you find that battery, 1976? :p

Haha, I collect old torches and some of them use those batteries. You can still buy them :p

These ones take them...

Yep, thanks to Wino for the offer of the assist - they are winging their way to him as we speak.

It's frustrating that the previous keeper couldn't be arsed to just sort the problems - caused more trouble doing it this way.

I do like things to be right! [emoji1]

Thanks

Also used in those flashing roadworks lights. I pinched loads of 'em when I was a nipper :D

Just wanted to say thanks to Wino for offering to sort this for me.  The clocks were returned in double quick time and I now have an array of warning lights nicely lit up on the dash!  Now to switch them all off again  :D
