Paying for ebay items through PayPal friends and Family.....

Featured Replies

I've just been in contact with someone on eBay now about an item and managed to get £10 off his asking price if I pay him directly through PayPal using Friends and Family to save on fees. He has 100% Feedback on 194 items but I'm not sure coz I don't want to risk losing £75.

What do you think I should do? I've got an email address and mobile number to which I have just messaged to check if it's legit or not, I've had no reply yet hmmmmm....

Suggestions please!!

Do you have £75 you don't want? Send it to some random who might have something he's not going to send you...

Then again, he might be legit, you can't tell until your item turns up as described.

I know that's my concern, I hovered over the send button then thought I'd ask on here. I've just messaged him again on his mobile number so I'll give him till tomorrow then decide!

Its not worth risking it for the sake of £10 as you will lose your eBay protection if the goods are faulty or get lost in the post.

I foolishly did it on the end but he lived up to his word, here are my new 312mm brakes; calipers, carriers and even pads, let's just hope they fit and work.

I usually reserve that sort of thing for private sales rather than ebay sales, for the exact reasons given. For high value ebay items (that would cost a small fortune in fees to sell) I usually agree with the seller/buyer to cancel the auction after the goods have been received/collected, as you usually get a refund on the final value and listing fees - definitely worth it if you sell a car via ebay. Downside is you don't get feedback, but we all know how easily that can be faked on ebay
