horn not working, multifunction controls not working

Featured Replies

So this morning it turns out my cruise and radio controls have stopped working (incdicators fine).

Having a gander online it seems as though the horn could be gone as well pointing to a faulty steering wheel control unit.

Sure enough.. the horn isn't working either. A £250 dealer part apparently.

Now.. I have an aftermarket stereo which was fine for a while and a little over a month ago was fitted with an aerial amplifier (without I'd had it for a little longer).

This amplifier is fitted to the power antenna. If I disconnect this amplifier the controls are still useless.

My octavia is a late model (54 plate) and uses canbus for a few things.

I haven't attempted a recent VCDS scan yet. Any thoughts on what it could be? Is it the 451 control unit? Should I attempt a VCDS scan with the aerial amp disconnected from the pwr antenna line?

I've read other threads but still slightly confused as to where the power for the amplifier should go and if it is safe to have connected to the head unit's power antenna.

steering wheel is part number is 1J0 907 487 A

The only issue with having the amplifier connected to the antenna live is they don't always stay live (powers up to extend the aerial and then goes off).

scanned with VCDS last night (I know, I haven't updated it just yet).

I'll post a dump but in short.. it's gone back to the mechanics as the majority of faults I have seem to be around things that they were working on. I have a feeling that there might be a wiring issue near something central as the problems seem to be intermittent for the ABS and the oil sensor.

More fun is that it looks like I can't use the high beams.

Just closing this thread off, I think a fuse had blown on top of the battery compartment for the electronic faults.

The ABS etc. was rectified as another faulty sensor fitted.
