Spraying parking sensor

Featured Replies

I've done a google but it's a bit hit & miss

Can you spray parking sensors.

Will it effect the sensor or not,

PLEASE HELP

Do you mean with water or paint? Water certainly affects the parking sensors on my car.

Yes.

They can be sprayed.  Keep the coats thin as possible though to prevent "false readings" and rain readings.  One or two of my sensors (factory fitted) are very fussy and even a small amount of water gives them false readings but others remain unaffected.

I never had any issue in the rain with my VW Golf sensors that were unpainted.  Admittedly they were a slightly different design but they worked fuss free, rain or sun shine.

When you buy a new sensor they come in just plain black with no primer or paint. You then have to paint them but keep it thin.

I wouldn't recommend painting an already painted one as the paint will probably be too thick.

When i fitted my rear parking sensors i gave them a couple of light spray coats of paint so they matched the bumper & they work fine & have done for the last 2 years, however i was speaking to the painter who sprayed my spoiler & they wont paint sensors anymore on repair jobs & order new ones from dealers that come in the correct colour.

I didn't even know you could order them pre-painted. I assume they're much more expensive?

And I did exactly the same as you. Light coat of primer, light coat of paint and a light coat of lacquer and it's been fine for a couple of years now! Also matches perfectly with the car.

I would imagine they are Phil,it may only be this particular bodyshop that does this but they were saying they have had issues getting the sensors to work after they have painted them so now order them in the correct colour, mine came already painted blue but it was a terrible match & would have driven me mad if i had fitted them in that colour :D so i did the same, primer, colour & lacquer & have had no issues.
