Infinity 652i

Featured Replies

I have managed to get my hands on some Infinty 652i speakers from ebay to replace the stock front speakers in my vRS. I think the guy may have a few sets because there is another auction here:

My speakers arrived promptly and appear to be brand new. From what I have read on here they are a popular choice but have been superceded by a new model that will not fit in the Octavia. So if you fancy some get bidding!!!

Cheers

Dave

I have 652is in the back of my Ibiza...they are a very good choice of speaker...and at that price they are such a bargain!

Digitrac,

Cut holes in the protective sheet behind where the speakers fit and disconnect the front (stock) tweeters. If you are changing the H/U aswell the difference is amazing.

Also, you will probably find that the Infinitys attach themselves to one of the metal struts inside the door. About 1/2 inch of that self adhesive foam draught excluder tape solves this problem.

But then you probably know all this aready.

Many thanks for the tips Rich

I have not fitted my 652s yet but I have removed the stock speakers to investigate this plastic sheet business. However I only found some pudding shaped dark grey foam pads behind the speakers which I have now removed. This has certainly produced a more acceptable sound but still not to my liking. I am going to give the stock H/U a try with the new high efficiency Infinitys before considering an upgrade. I am also considering rear speaker replacement after seeing the quality of the fronts!!! I would ideally like to fit some 552i in the back but realise there will be a problem without some sort of spacer arrangement.

Any more tips thankfully received

Cheers,

Dave

Spacers would definatly be required as the speaker cones are 'proud' and they need to be flush in the rear. A spacer though may cause you even more problems. Have a look at the drivers side rear, access to the screws is somewhat fiddly! Drop the speaker down 1/2 inch and it may be even worse. I fitted some Sony two ways in the back and they are quite suitable for me.

The grey foam stuff is what I meant BTW. I wasn't clear.

I tried the speaker change only route originally but you might aswell get a new H/U. The original is poor.

I just bought some longer screws so that greater clearance would be allowed between the speakers and the mounting. The gap is filled with washers so that everything's still nice and tight.

Rob.
