... meant that due to a lack of serious traffic, a 122 mile round trip from Lincoln area to St Ives 0715-1130 on A & B roads and the A1 at legal limits gave me over 45 Mpg, the outward leg of 61 miles saw just under 47 Mpg at an avg speed of 51Mph. My avg over the last 2000 miles is 39Mpg. I know that it is only the onboard computer and that it will drop in the winter months. Obviously my location and lack of urban driving helps but I am still impressed with the TSI economy it is better than my old TFSI. I am not impressed with the dolt in an old diesel Vectra who pulled from the A1 central reservation straight into the overtaking lane near Colsterworth with no gaps in either lane and myself and another car bearing down on him at 70 Mph. One of the dopiest moves I have seen in 40 years of driving.

I am sure that this post will generate the usual fantastic diesel Mpg in response, that isn't the point, it's to show that if your driving style and location can make owning a petrol VRS a reasonable proposition, without driving like a granny. I accept that others who have diesels have other more pressing priorities and prefer torque (although the TSI is very flexible) and smaller fuel bills.
