My new car "Skoda Octavia 1.2 TSI DSG" has many problems.

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have purchased new car at the beginning of year(January 2016). Although I love my car, there are some issues that bothers me a lot.

1. My car is consuming too much fuel. I usually drive my car smoothly(no aggressive driving). Windows up and air conditioning off. Tyres are the right pressure and properly inflated.

I've simply followed/implemented all the steps listed on this page.

Fuel consumption in my car;

With a full tank of petrol(Urban): max 466km.

With a full tank of petrol(Extra Urban): max 610km.

Before driving, it was 180 km. After 23 km driving it was 120 km.

When I filled up the tank full, it showed 580km. After 59 km driving it showed 470 km. (https://postimg.org/image/vjmazne6l/)

2. Whistling noise coming from engine.

It sounds like the engine (or something connected to it) is whistling. It occurs after 1000 RPMs. if I'm not mistaken, turbo motors always make a whistle. The thing that's really weird is that this is starting from 1000-1200 rpms. (and too much whistling)

3. Fluid leaks near the front middle of the car. When I start the car (on flat ground and the air conditioning is off), it leaking water from the bottom center area.

4. I noticed something strange when driving my car. When I cross 100-120km/h on a smooth road, my car suddenly pulls to right and left. The steering wheel does not vibrate. it is not related to wheel alignment and balancing. But i don't know why my car pulls to the right or the left at random after 100-120 km/h.

5. Cracking noise when shifting to low gears.

6. When listening to music from SD card, system(bolero) sometimes resets and starts again. It resets at totally random times. I've tried different SD cards.

7. Car headlight turns foggy on rainy days or gloomy weather. Especially fogging after rain.

8. Above all, I noticed that there are too many scratches inside and in the hood of the car.

All of the following problems exist when i bought my car. These are not new. My car is at about 2500 km right now.

You need to discuss these issues with your dealer. If they cant fix it return it to your dealer for a refund.

It looks like you do a lot of urban short journeys, so 7l/100km isnt far off the 6l/100km skoda quote.

Also 2500kms is far too low distance to expect good fuel economy only 1500miles.

Yes the lights do fog up, that's normal.

The plastics are scratchy, you need to care for the car more.

600+ kilometers = 400+ miles to a tank. Sounds pretty good to me. I get 500 miles in my much larger and heavier CR140 diesel Superb.

Number 3 is likely to be the air conditioning. Even with it turned off if it has been run previously, especially in a hot climate such as Turkey there will be residual condensate in the system. When the engine is started the A/C system is active, even if turned off. The drain point is behind the engine.

Number 4 could be the road surface, often known as tram-lining, especially where heavy vehicles such as trucks cause the road surface to sink where their wheels run.

Number 7 is also normal, again worse in hot or humid climates. It is even mentioned in the owners manual.

Number 8 should have been noticed when you inspected the car prior to buying it? Ask the dealer to fix them.

No 4 - do you have lane assist? - If so, turn off the 'Dynamic' bit from the Car Setup Menu on the Infotainment unit.

Point 2: there's a ribbed pipe on the engine for the fuel tank breather system, it's replaced by a non ribbed pipe to stop the noises.

Point 3: the air con always runs, even with it turned off, hence small amounts of water forming on the evapourator and exiting via a drain tube.

Certainly play with the lane assist option as above, I initially found this very annoying
I've put new tyres all round however and fully tracked, as well as driving with it off to check everything working okay without this extra "feedback"

It seems to make a bit of difference, lane assist pulls you around in ways that feels abnormal at times (not off road but can feel a bit unnatural), but then its only a computer system and such things have a long way to go in development before they can be fully trusted ( in my opinion, never).

e.g. if you were able to ask the opinion of this driver who unfortunately isn't in any position to comment!
