Knocking noise rear of car Octavia vrs 2008

Featured Replies

Metallic knocking noise from the rear sounds like metal on metal ? Noticeable on poor roads at slow speeds .

Been through all previous posts nothing points to a pacific component failing , looked at all obvious items and can find no worn part !

Anyone bottomed this annoying rear knocking noise ?

Thanks

RARB bushing?

Very hard to locate when jacked up. Have you reviewed the concentric bolts that bolt the rear wishbones or whatever they are called to the centre of the car? I had a loose one which caused me a clunk over speed bumps in particular

RARB bushing?

Will replace them and report back , thanks

I had a noise on mine recently, it turned out to be a 6" heat shield on the rear subframe that protects a bit of brake pipe from heat were the exhaust goes over the top of it. You will have to jack the car up or put it on ramps to see the part I'm on about, the spring clips that held in place had rusted away and was just sitting there rattling. How it neve fell of I don't know, I did a 2000 mile round trip to France and back.

Heat shield on exhaust

Rear shock absorber bump stops

broken rear spring (Hard to spot but they break very near the bottom in the spring tray)

REAR ANTI ROLL BAR DROP LINKS were the culprit £35.00 on a set , no more nasty knocking noise
