Cheapest form of motorsport - AutoSolo

Featured Replies

Been meaning to do this for years but as always life gets in the way. Anyway early last week I popped onto ANWCC site and noticed Bolton Le Moors had a autosolo on at the DW stadium in Wigan. So quick email and I was booked on. :)

No neeed for a national b none competitive license as you can compete in the clubman class. Also no modifications required for the car. Just needs to be road legal and insured.

Turned up on Sunday to a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. After getting the car checked it was time to walk the course. Was paranoid as hell about not remembering which way to go. Lol. It was well organised in the sense you were split up into 3 groups arching taking turns to compete, marshall and relax.

First outing I did a 1.30 time. Second was down to 1.20, then 1.19, 1.18, 1.17 then into the 1.16s. Had a total of 13 runs with the option of discarding your slowest time which was the one i aborted after entering the 360 cone on the wrong side :( Ended up finishing 5th in the clubman class out of about 11 drivers.

Took some in car footage for the first session but then left the camera on so flat battery...doh.

Good fun for £25 plus club membership.

Haydn (niceyellowvrs) has been auto-soloing for some time. Apparently he's become rather good at it :notme:

We used to call that "autotesting", back in the day. You hardly ever use anything except first, second and reverse gears yes?

They still have autotests which includes using reserve gear. But yeah this was just 1st gear bouncing off the limit and the handbrake :)
