Any advice for scratched glass?

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

I've noticed that the windscreen on the Saab has a lot of fine scratches all over. It also has some slightly bigger ones going down the screen (I assume from grit/ice scraper at some point).

I've been looking into it and it seems you can perhaps polish the screen and remove light scratches (not if you can feel them with your finger nail).

There are kit you buy online that come with a felt wheel that attaches to a standard drill and comes with a compound (usually cerium oxide based).

Has anyone ever tried this and can offer any advice?

The alternative is to wait till the screen cracks and get a new one!

You can not polish them out if the tint is then affected, so depends on the glass.

Accidents can be quite good if you have just the excess to pay.

(Obviously before having an un-expected accident with a flying stone you need to check the availability of the replacement screen.)

Just checked and there is no tint strip on the windscreen.

However the glass is described by Saab as "heat absorbent" and it has an overall green kind of tinge to it. I believe it has a metallic content which works by heating up then getting cooled on the outside when the wind blows across it.
