Audi forced into platform sharing

Featured Replies

All they need to do is build desirable vehicles that people are going to buy and lease.

Sort out their production and economy of scale and profitability.

But while at that sort out their quality control and reliability.

If the Board of the Volkswagen Group are prepared to spend more on Fines, Lawyers, Recalls and Media & Publicity than getting to grips with Rust Inhibitors and the technology of rubber, chains, tensioners & electrics then they are still up the creak without a paddle.

All that Motorsport Investments, success and heritage and they can not build 99% reliable vehicles that people can buy and run until the next new big thing is properly ready to be launched.

The Name & Number of a platform the car is built on means little if it is 60kg lighter yet  no spare wheel is fitted and all the safety features others fit as standard are options

on a VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda.

5 Year Warranties as standard would be a clear indication of the Volkswagen Group having trust in their own products they build and sell.

You'd think the Audi brand's premium pricing will be hit if they have to lower themselves to mere Volkswagen platforms.

Engine transmission reliability.......?

Any smart business would be spinning that the best of the platforms are being used, the best of components and drive trains, the lightest and best and giving value.

The actual fact is the cuts by billions of investment and future planned investments and expenditure at Audi Production plants in Hungary and other countries.

This is a fair amount of smoke and mirrors from Audi. At least at the lower end of the market.

Audi have been using VW group platforms for years. The Mk 1 A3 (1996) used VW type A, shared with Golf, Toledo, and others.

A4 (1994 onwards) started on VW's B platform, as did the Passat. Though this was an Audi-led platform.

None of the lower end platforms were (or are) exclusive across the group, just versions depending on 2 or 4WD, transverse or longitudinal egine, wheelbase.

I realy agree, A3 is MQB same as Oct & Golf & leon..

Just the Audi get alu front subframes, rear door controlers, more aero undertrays etc....

Obviously they can't "hide" the component sharing any more so have to explain it in simple terms

What is going to happen to their larger expensive ones, I wonder?.

They will still be large and be priced to give a proper profit on each produced and sold otherwise what is the point of being in business and manufacturing.

Obviously up to now the VW Group had Board Members and CEO's that had projects that were not profitable and were just for the Ego of the VW Group.

Now the Unions & Investors want to keep jobs, be profitable and produce and sell cars that are not loss leaders or causing them to lose jobs and money because of the dishonesty that was in the VW Group while trying to be the biggest Car Manufacturer in the World.

Which larger platforms, such as Q7, A8 etc, are shared with VW vehicles ?.

Which larger platforms, such as Q7, A8 etc, are shared with VW vehicles ?.

One, the Chinese based Phaeton (Phideon) using the MLB Audi platform.

A4, A5, Q5, A6, A7, A8,Q7 all use MLB platform,

So Recon on the MLB being used for the following big MQB platform cars;- Passat, Superb, big Skoda SUV

The Audi Q7 really is a big long car with a long wheel base.

Fat lumps that are an odd choice as daily drivers in cities, but maybe the Governments can start charging accordingly by length & width & weight these 'Light Trucks' that are used as passenger vehicles with just the driver in them.
