I have run measuring blocks on fabia mk2 1.4tdi and it looks like under load one injector is injecting more than the other two, I guess this over fueling is causing the cloud of smoke under load.  Is this a sign of a bad injector or should I be testing loom first before changing injectors

in addition to this I did a run with logging of the temperature and after a 20 minute drive the coolant temp settled at 78c?   I thought it should be higher than this?  is it possible the smoking is overfueling due to temp sensor or thermostat, dont think its stuck open as the heater warms up relatively quick?

Assuming your VCDS cable is genuine, you could update it to the latest release and then ask on their forums.

As the VCDS version is 11.11.3 in the screenshots and the current version is 16.8.3 either OP hasn't updated VCDS for 5+ years or it's a third-party cable.

car is in garage today for timing belt and WP along with thermostat as I found warmup was only getting to 78c.  they are saying that there is play in the turbo shaft as well as the pipe to the EGR is loose and that's what they want to replace next, just don't want to be spending unless I am sure its going to be a fix.  I guess Darkside Developments would be the best place to look at injectors?

Check the VCDS owners map. You may be able to get a little help from someone local for the cost of a pack of nappies or something (that's my preferred payment anyway!)

That'll give you a proper full readout on a legit cable and most likely people being more open to helping you

P.S. I have a 12 year old octy and I got the full cable. That said.. I also used it for 2 sharans and 2 golfs within the family.
