Retro Fit new Capacitive touchscreen

Featured Replies

I know it's not been released yet, but does anyone think it will be possible to fit the new touchscreen units into the current MK3? I realise it would mean cutting the dashboard, or maybe getting a new fitting for it as well. But as a technical exercise, surely it would be possible? It's the only thing I think would be worth getting from the faceliift!

The UI in that thing is as slow and laggy as a slideshow - I have higher hopes on the Pioneer Navgate Evo ;)

Just look here how slow the interface on the Alpine unit is... ouch!

And some videos from the Pioneer:

Mind you there is some careful editing on this video to make it look snappier:

Event then, I still think the Pioneer is a better option and, for sure, for a fraction of the price...

Is it just the angle, or is that unit a terrible fit?

In addition to the OP, I can 300% guarantee that shoehorning the bigger OEM unit in by cutting he dash will look horrific.

Mind you that is the Golf mk7 version, but there should be one for the Octavia mk3 fascia.

That IS slow - like the old resistive touchscreens on very early smartphones. Mind you, the one in Jaco2K's post still has a protective film on it, which might be thicker/more resisant to touch than modern screen protectors are.

I know an Alpine dealer local to me and he just bought an Octavia that he says he will put that Alpine unit on, so I will try to see it in the flesh, but I am highly doubtful it will ever work.

It'll take some time before he has the car or Alpine...
