Reports of Investigations into 'Defeat Device's' in Audi Petrol & Diesels.

Featured Replies

There are media articles starting to appear that there may be more Defeat Device cheats in Audi Petrol & Diesels.

Time will tell.

Any links, Offski? Cheers.

Well I can't say I'm surprised.

Seems pretty logical that they did it to diesels so why not petrols too?

Does this also mean that VW, Seat and Skoda will all be affected too? Time will tell.

didn't read all that but is that the auto box "cheat"?  if it is in fact one

It sounds like,

& 'Traditional Automatics', so the quattros.

I did read it (now) and would suggest that "driving in a straight line" is exactly what most USians do most of!

Hang on then... the "cheat" software detects if the steering is straight or not and alters shifts points?

Sounds more like the car adapting it shifting to whether you're just driving down a straight road or turning corners (where you don't want it to shift).

Hang on I've added more aero panels to the underside & rear of my car (better aero, more protection etc) using VW parts...............

Have I cheated then???...........

Certainly that was my reading of the linked articles.

I think the point might be they believe it was there operating as a Defeat Device that gave EU Testing results and them Smog Test results that were false,

not just the fiction type ones that gave the Co2 Irregular / implausible results.

Reducing NoX & Co2 should be their aim, but on the road not only in testing and Smog Testing of peoples vehicles.

If all was as allowed then the VW Group will still be using that same set up and not stopped using it in May 2016. if they did stop then.

yeeehaaaaaaaaa!!  don't cha jus luv 'em  what with 40 litre Cummins and Jimmys and all those coal rollin' pickups "that's a big 10-4 good buddy"  and they're worrying about auto boxes, where  it would appear sensible to mod the "mixture" on a straight flat cruise along route 66  :smirk:

Is it not about cheats while in testing & vehicles travelling no place, rather than about gearboxes giving good economy & lower emissions?

As i recall the 2015 investigations carried out in the USA has ended up with a World Wide Scandal where vehicles around the world have to be given a voluntary recall and 'the fix;

found for them.

We will see if anything is found this time that is unacceptable in the USA and if it then turns out to have been acceptable in Europe & RoW.

At least it is now being covered in the National News in the UK today even if other media like some Motoring Journals would rather not cover it too widely.
