Looking to buy

Featured Replies

Firstly I must apologise if this is somehow in the wrong section! I haven't posted for a long time after leave the VAG group for a while. However I am just about to purchase a 2007 Octavia Vrs petrol estate this weekend. I wanted to ask from a non mechanic's view what are the sort of common issues i should look out for when I test drive it tomorrow? Thank you all in advance!

I would check the sills for rust, check the car has a full service history & evidence of a recent cambelt replacement, check the rear tyres for uneven wear, check the air conditioning works correctly, make sure all the warning lights come on then go off correctly as a faulty abs pump sensor can be a issue on some.Do you have a link to the car you are about to view?

As above plus a known weak point is sticky rear calipers. My last two Octavias have suffered with this. As it's the petrol it will have the TFSi engine so ask about oil consumption as they can suffer from bore/ring wear. Lastly any strange noises from the top right of the engine could be a knackered fuel cam follower. Not a problem itself but they can take the camshaft out with them if left too long. And snapped suspension springs!!

Thanks all. The car is with Car Connect Uk dealers 2007 petrol estate if you want to google. Not sure how to do a link! I remember the sticky calliper issue on our mk1 vrs when in reverse it used to moan!it had a cambelt in 2014 and i checked the MOT history it has never had even an advisory so i am hopeful its a good one.

We've had our 2007 pre fl since March now and so far it's great. Ours also went through the last MOT without any advisories so hopefully you'll enjoy yours as much as we have.  Get some pics up when you've collected the car.

It looks a tidy car, however its way over priced, needs a grand knocking off that price,it doesnt have automatic climate control or the jumbo box or rear electric windows. All 3 of the octavia's they have for sale are over priced in my opinion. There is a red estate for sale in the classifieds on here for £3800.

Damn well I've bought it now! Either way I love it and its local. It has a tear in the door card which I'll get fixed and it needs the rear window re tinting but thats it, full service history and cambelt done recently and its never had an advisory so I am happy.
