VRS Rough Idle and Smoking

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I bought my VRS 170 last month and I love the car but I have noticed sometimes it idles rough. I have also noticed that when it does idle rough it also smokes and smells of diesel fumes. I'm hoping to borrow a work colleagues vagcom unit to see if it flags anything up but wondered if anyone had any ideas. Once actually driving you don't notice anything just idling, fumes and a dip in power likeit might stall when pulling away.

Many thanks in advance,

Norgs

Could easily be EGR stuck or fuel temperature sensor reading hot so it injects more fuel and you're getting overfuelling.

Have you got access to VCDS to scan it and see what's going on

Thanks for the reply, the other thing it does it slow starting especially in the cold.

I have just ordered a VCDS scanner so will get it on it asap, at first I wondered if it might be a glow plug but having read your reply that might make more sense. It was doing it last night when I went to the gym but driving to work this morning it was fine.

Mine does it from time to time, normally around the time it's gonna try and do a dpf regeneration.

Take it for a nice steady trip down the motor way for a few junctions.

Another odd one for me is it runs a bit rough when it's got about 1/4 a tank of fuel. Fill it up and it goes away? Never worked that one out TBH.

Has it had a new non genuine DPF fitted?

It sounds like it's doing a regen and the aftermarket ones seem to allow a lot of white smoke to pass through.
