Clutch options?

Featured Replies

I've got a pre FL tfsi vrs (bwa) and today at 107k my clutch has started to slip so I'm wondering what options are out there? Ideally I want an uprated clutch and probably go SMF as I'm going for stage 2+ maybe stage 3 after xmas.

I know about the Sachs one at around £550 and a techniclutch effort on eBay with a lightened SMF but I'm sure they are pretty crap.

I don't mind importing from America if needs be as I'll probably nurse the car till I'm off at xmas to fit it.

Cheers

Personally I would stick with the DMF - you could end up with transmission problems going SMF. As for Techniclutch - avoid like a syphilis infected hooker with the flu - poor quality, cheaply remanufactured rubbish - and if there was a warranty issue they will get out of it by saying the fitter contaminated it. Blackpool Trading Standards have got filing cabinets full of complaints about them.

Cheers mate. That's basically what I had heard about those cowboys, even their pic of the friction plate on eBay looks terrible!

Ecs tuning do some nice looking spec branded kits which come in at a nice £1200 roughly..... ouch! That's with a lightened solid flywheel, not sure how much a standard DMF would be.

I would speak with a few companies such as awesome gti, jabbasport, r tech, shark etc and discuss your requirememts with them. They will make a package to suit you and then decide which one is the better deal. I wouldnt worry about travelling either because if you want a job doing properly, it pays dividends to cover travelling costs for peace of mind. If you can stretch to it and whilst the gearbox is out. It might be worth fitting an atb differential to help put the power down.

Thanks guys. I'll be doing the job myself as I've done plenty of clutches in the past so it worried about that.

A diff would be nice and will be done in time however it's too close to xmas to spend another £700-800.
