Best go to someone that can find and fix the fault.

Maybe avoid any establishment with an Arnold Clark sign.

You should try to find someone with VCDS to scan the car and read the fault codes. Once you have the fault codes you can use this site to follow the guides on how to rectify them...

As above, really need to check fault codes but perhaps also a sign your battery is on its way out. The Octy electrics can do funny things when the battery needs replacing.

Could it be the cluster

Could be battery, or alternator, or the sprague clutch on the alternator pulley if fitted. An auto electrician should be able to give a definitive diagnosis, as long as he gets any work resulting.
