Airbag light

Featured Replies

Hi all happy new year.

Would anyone no if a front seat is repairable as me light comes on the dash board and it is a fault with the seat because a tryed a different seat from someone else's skoda and the light stayed off.

Or is it a case of just replace the seat thanks.

Graeme

The bags and igniters aren't repairable; the wiring probably is, but that's a question of whether the fault tracing will cost more than the new seat or not.

CHEERS

Check the plug isn't pulling off the wires and making a bad connection.

A had to cut the plug off to fit the other seat.

plugs were different fitting even though it came out of a similar vehicle.

So if a do find a replacement seat al have to cut the plug off to connect it up if you no what a mean.

There are different plugs between different model years so not a problem to solder them (providing you know the wiring layout)

Early Octavias Mk2 and VW Golf Mk5 cars had a problem with the terminals being to thin (yellow plug with purple tab)

Later cars had a yellow plug with an orange tab these had terminals that were twice the size of the earlier version

Ed, when I did the leather upgrade, I swapped the plugs over as the donor seats had different plugs to the ones I took out, and immediately got the airbag light on. VCDS scan showed a communication error with the airbag modules in both front seats with the wrong part numbers connected up. I had to strip the seats and swap to the original seat airbags out of the old seats to get rid of this error.

As I said

The terminals that go into the plug are different, the newer seats have the wider terminals. They wouldn't fit in your older terminals properly and would cause the light to stay on

It is a case of using the correct terminals and plugs or soldering

You might have had a faulty airbag, or maybe the solder joint was to thick

I've changed interiors on several mk5 golfs where the model years were different. I've also sorted problems where people have used house electrical connector blocks to join the wires.

I've also made airbag resistor looms for people who fit recaro wingback seats, which is how i know about the terminals that are used

Thanks guys

When the airbag light came on vcds said airbag had reached upper limit whatever that meant so that's why a changed seats and cut plugs off. When a reset with vcds light stayed off sorry for not explaining properly.

So if the airbag light comes up( which mine has today!) how do i know which airbag is at fault?

Cheers mike,do you mean that the light will come up because it might be either the airbags or the seatbelt tensioners that are at fault.

Thanks .

Ian.
