Anyone with experience of an E Class convertible?

Featured Replies

You get quite a lot of car for your money looking at ones a couple of years old. I know it's really a C Class chassis and there's a new model out soon but it's still tempting.

Yes. Our relatives in Germany are on their second one.

Very comfortable with a great ride over bumps. 7 speed gearbox is nice.

I only have experience of an E350 CGI V6 petrol which was very nice. Super quiet when cruising but sounds great when you mash the throttle.

The built in wind diffuser above the windscreen and rear wind deflector behind the rear seats really does reduce wind inside.

Highly recommend getting one with the air scarf!

Rear leg room is decent as is boot space. Luggage for 3 adults for the weekend with the roof down is possible (although boot has to be emptied to raise/lower the roof due to refusal to operate due to sensors).

Highly recommended.

Surely not completely empty every time you run into a shower

Well we did have to due to the size/dimensions of the cases used they were pushing on the roof guard inside the boot and the car refused to operate the roof untill they were moved.

Very useful, thanks.

Ah

I guess if you can afford one it has to be able to accomodate your 'evening wear'

We're soft bag minimalists

Yeah we try and travel as light as possible these days. It's all too tempting to just pack a tonne of clothes but you never end up wearing them all.

Our Saab is pretty good for this. There is space under the roof for 2 large flight sized cases. Then there is a lot of space in front of the roof. And it's not too sensitive as long as there is room for the fabric guard to drop then the roof will work.

The Mercedes seems very sensitive to anything remotely near the roof. If anything is even touching the cover inside the boot it refuses to work.

A nice touch with the roof is it can be lowered with the remote as can my Saab's. Very handy for as you're approaching/getting in you can be getting the top down!

Probably want to make sure it has some warranty, as whilst they are generally Ok, if anything big goes wrong, its fairly pricey, although there are independent specialists who are a lot cheaper than main dealers.

The ones I'm looking at would still by under factory warranty.

I don't particularly like the way they drive, but that's obviously a very personal thing. That said, I don't really get on with any Merc stuff and find their seats terrible (too firm, not enough support), AMG aside...

At this age/budget, and with the assumed usage in mind (4 seater and luggage), I'd be looking at a 4-Series convertible myself.

While not a convertible we have the e class's at work. IMO there not that great drive, the Interior isn't built particular well (take many interiors apart at work). And the leather seats are rather cheap.

The 220cdi isn't too bad of a engine. The 350cdi is a monster.
