PID - is it worth it? Other options for Bluetooth?

Featured Replies

I've picked up an extremely cheap Citigo which is fairly basic. My current car has a Bluetooth connection which is ideal for streaming Spotify.

I know the Citigo has an AUX input but you're still left with the annoying cable.

There seems to be mixed reviews on the PID. I'm not really bothered about anything other than playing music through bluetooth and that seems to be where it struggles.

Are there any other options that are better for bluetooth?

Thanks.

I've always found the PID really useful for streaming music, it's also a handy sat nav. I really like mine

How about something like this? https://www.kitsound.co.uk/product/accessories/myjack-aux-in-bluetooth-converter

I have one I used to use in my Volvo and it's spot on! My PID doesn't play music properly so it's being taken back and in the meantime I may have to dig this out :)

Similarly we find the PID poor for streaming in the lad's Citigo, so tend to use the cable instead. When the weather warms up, I'm planning to get out there and wire the aux through the dash to a socket lowed down to avoid having the trailing cables

Deffo worth doing, the one in my Volvo was in the centre console and it was nicer IMO than having it on the stereo but that was quite an expensive car compared to the Citigo so I don't mind so much that it's in the dash and certainly with the kitsound in you can see that the device is working or if it needs charging etc :) Do come back and show us how you've done it!!

That kit sound thing looks alright for £15. I just don't fancy spending  £100 on a PID if it's not going to perform the only function I want. Sat nav and other statistics arent of any interest too me.

I presume it's better quality than those old fashioned FM transmitters?

Yes, it's way better as it plugs directly into the aux port and it quite a high quality kit. It's a great size and would be spot on in the little Citigo, very unobtrusive if not on charge or if it is on charge I would recommend you buy a longer USB to Micro USB charger and a 12v to USB adapter (£5 for both from most places) and then leave it plugged in all the time, the wire wouldn't even get in the way as the 12v socket is quite a way in front of the gearlever. If you can look past this guys terrible incorrect and overuse of the word 'obviously' it shows how it works and gives you an idea of the size :)

He's is annoying but it looks like the product isn't.

I think that will work for me. Will just need to find a tidy way to have it wired up.

Thanks.

Just ordered one from Amazon for the MX5 (as it was available for the same price on Prime so no P&P)

I'll report back

Intent is to put a 3.5mm socket in the middle of the one unused button (next to the TPMS button).

Will do

Kitsound arrived today. Unwrapped, installed, paired and working in about 5 mins flat. Works nicely.

Thanks for the suggestion, SashaGrace!
