An idea for buzzing door card? naff?

Featured Replies

have a bit of an issue that hardly bothers me but I'd like to sort out. When I get the woofers in the doors giving it some serious bass, they are vibrating the long thin parts of the "grill" that is integral in the door card. I need these slats to be gone so thought of the following.

Hack off slats flush with the main part of the door card, thereby exposing the entire area of the door behind there, which might well be more than just the woofer. Then smooth off where the slats were cut with sandpaper, then put black rubber strip around it, like a door strip, so the cut edges will be inside the rubber. Once thats done, I'll have to see what else is then visible and tidy up as much as I can.

The important thing for me is this brings the woofer into the open air for free clear bass instead of a slightly annoying zzZZzzzZZZzzzZZZ :speaker: in the background.

Are they the plastic slats inside of the speaker grill?

if so a dremel or similar is pretty good for removing and grinding the plastic right back to the edge without any sharp speaker damagin edges.

Do break in mind that if you remove the plastic the metal grill will be more prone to denting if you knock it than previously.

Jason,

After cutting them out and tidying up the edges, you could cover the hole with acoustic cloth - the stuff hi-fi speakers are covered in. You can buy it in black - not sure about other colours.

Check that there's nothing loose inside the door e.g. the window and lock mechanism - these can vibrate and produce noise when you wind up the bass.

Also check that the door card can't vibrate against the door frame - blu-tac is good for stopping stuff rubbing against each other.

I have laminate flooring insulation between the door card and the door itself - that WAS really bad, but also an easy fix. :) Its just the woofer is so deep (around 70mm I think) its cone is very close to the slats in the door card grill, and is vibrating them badly, BzzZZzzZZzz :speaker:

Think I'll cut them out with a sharp stanley knife first due to lack of dremel, and take it from there. :)

dremmel knock off is about
