Electrical Gremlins???

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a 2001 X plate 1.9 Tdi Elegance Estate - Me n a mate fitted a towbar to my car tonight (I'm an aircraft technician, he's avionics)...

In doing so, we had to remove the 3 lower interior panels (plastic ones) but have not yet connected the electrics for the towbar (no wires cut/disturbed).

Anyway, on refitting everything, I noticed the boot lights didn't work, something to do tomorrow (or so I thought)...

It now turns out that none of these work:

Electric windows

Electric mirrors

Remote central locking - the keyfob used to flash when pressed, not anymore (not had chance to check the battery yet)

Sunroof

Interior lights

Cigarette lighter

Passenger side electric window switch lights

It still starts, drives, no other indication, no flashing lights on the dash etc. I still have all head, tail lights and indicators.

Ok, before anyone says the obvious, I'VE CHECKED ALL THE FUSES at the side of the dashboard - The only one that appears to be blown is for the central locking!? - Can't replace until Halfords opens tomorrow.

I don't think I caught any wires but further investigation will reveal... What I can't understand is how the soddin sunroof has stopped working, it has a completely seperate circuit.

Is there something easy I've missed?

Is there a magical fuse under the bonnet which cures all?

This is the first problem I've had in 6,000 happy miles.

And before you say... I've fitted towbars to my cars before without problems.

Any help you can offer would be awesome.

Jim.

The central locking fuse could well be linked to all the other things you list above, could be that the fuse also controls the central convenience unit that does the interior lights etc. if you cant get a fuse to test it, just pull one from another non essential circuit with the same rating and check it in that one.

Yep, it was blown, and for some reason, links all the systems I mentioned earlier.

Thanks for your help John.

Jim.
